COLFUTURO loan and scholarship program

Colombian students can apply for funding for their Master’s studies through the COLFUTURO loan and scholarship program. The main objective of COLFUTURO is to provide financial support and increase the possibilities of Colombian citizens to access high-quality postgraduate study programmes abroad. The foundation offers loans of up to USD 50,000. Students may be awarded scholarships for 50% of the loaned amount, provided they fulfil certain requirements such as returning to Colombia upon completion of a programme, and remain in the country for three to five years.

Citadel Capital Scholarship Foundation

The foundation is funded by an endowment from Qalaa Holdings. Scholarships are granted to talented and promising young Egyptian men and women to pursue master degrees abroad in all fields of study. Applicant must be under the age of 35, an Egyptian citizen, and residing in Egypt. Upon completion of program, graduates must be committed to return to work in Egypt for a minimum of two years.

The Tamim bin Hamad Scholarship awarded under the Qatar government scholarship programme offers scholarships to Qatari citizens who wish to study at a recognized university abroad. University of Copenhagen is included in the list of approved universities.

Global Education Programme

GEP funds full-time post-graduate studies in the areas of science, engineering, medicine, education, and management. The grant covers tuition fees, international travel expenses, medical insurance, accommodation, meals, and academic literature. Program participants are expected to return to Russia upon completion of their studies and to obtain employment in accordance with the qualification gained for a period of at least three years.

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) Postgraduate Scholarships 

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) under the Government of Singapore’s Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, offers the SFA Postgraduate Scholarship (Master’s/PhD) for both full-term/mid-term graduate coursework/research studies at international universities in various subject areas (E.g. Agricultural Sciences, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Food Science, Plant Science, Toxicology). The SFA is the national authority entrusted with the mission to ensure and secure a supply of safe food for Singapore.

Fulbright Commission

American citizens can apply for a scholarship awarded by the Fulbright Commission. Applications will be considered for all graduate degree levels and in all fields of study.

Federal Student Loans – Title IV

The University of Copenhagen is no longer participating in the Title IV Loan Program.

Private Lenders

Many private lenders base their policy on the school being certified for the Title IV Loan Program. Make sure to ask if this is the case, so that you do not falsely rely on a lender that is not independent of Title IV certification by the school.

Veteran Aid – VA

The University of Copenhagen is no longer servicing Veteran Aid. The university’s programmes are not being certified, nor is the university able to receive funds on your behalf. This means that you will not be able to use VA funds for your studies at UCPH.

Scholarships from external institutions

The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from select developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies. Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant and 50% loan basis through a competitive application process.

To be eligible to apply for the scholarship you must identify as female and be studying computer science, computer engineering or a closely related technical field. The OFID Scholarship Award by the OPEC Fund for International Development is granted for students from developing countries who wish to pursue a Master’s degree in a development related field at an internationally recognized university. The scholarship covers tuition fees and a monthly allowance.

The Rotary Foundation provides scholarships for students through their Rotary Foundation Global Grants programme. Applicants have to be nominated by a local Rotary club, which are located in 70 countries around the world. In general, applications can be made on a rolling basis but the different local clubs might have internal application deadlines. Interested students should contact their local Rotary club.

Danish government Scholarships

The University of Copenhagen offers a limited number of tuition waivers and grants through the Danish Government Scholarship programme. The scholarships are competitive and offered to highly talented students with outstanding academic records from non-EU/EEU countries. All non-EU/EEA applicants offered admission will automatically be considered for the scholarship; you do not submit an individual application for the scholarship.

The Danish Government Scholarship is granted either as full or partial tuition fee waivers and/or as an amount that covers basic living expenses. 

FAQ about Danish Government Scholarships

Who is eligible?

In order to be eligible for a scholarship, you must be:

  • a citizen of a country outside the EU, EEA (the European Economic Area) or Switzerland
  • admitted to a master’s degree programme at the University of Copenhagen
  • granted a time-limited residence permit for the purpose of studying a higher educational programme in Denmark.

You are not eligible for a Danish Government Scholarship if you:

  • have a legal claim to the rights of Danish citizens
  • are eligible for a grant in accordance with Danish law regarding the State Educational Grant and Loan Scheme (SU)
  • have been granted a residence permit at the time of admission by the Danish Aliens Consolidations Act §9c, subsection 1, as the child of a foreign citizen who has been granted a residence permit in accordance with the Danish Aliens Consolidations Act §9m, and who is a citizen of a country that is not acceded to the EU or covered by the EEA agreement.

How do we award the scholarship?

The University awards the scholarships solely on the basis of academic achievement; financial need is not taken into consideration.

All non-EU/EEA applicants to the University of Copenhagen’s MA/MSc degree programmes will automatically be considered for the Danish Government Scholarship, provided they are eligible. Therefore, you do not submit an individual application.

Nominated students receive information directly through the application portal. 

If you are offered a scholarship, but do not accept it within the specified deadline, the scholarship offer will be revoked, and offered to another applicant.

Faculty-specific conditions

The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences has a very limited number of scholarships to award outstanding non-EU/EEA students. The scholarships are awarded to the academically most outstanding students.

What does the scholarship cover?

The Admissions Committee can choose to grant a scholarship in two different ways:

  • the scholarship covers both tuition fees and living expenses
  • the scholarship covers the tuition fee.

If you receive a Danish Governmental scholarship to cover living expenses, you must be aware that they are taxed according to Danish Tax legislation. Some nationalities may be exempt from paying tax of the scholarship. If you are exempt, we will inform you in your award letter.

Who are considered for a scholarship?

All eligible non-EU/EEA applicants are considered for a scholarship as part of the academic assessment. 

The scholarships are allocated to students with excellent academic performance.

How do I apply for a scholarship?

You do not apply for a scholarship, as all eligible non-EU/EEA applications will be taken into consideration for a scholarship. Therefore, there is no separate application form.

Scholarship for 2nd year students

Each year the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences consider the academic performance of fee-paying students who have completed the first year at the faculty regarding a full 1-year scholarship. The number of scholarship is very limited. It is our expectation to award approximately 2 scholarships for 2nd year students per academic year.

The very best student will be awarded a scholarship to cover both tuition fees and living expenses for the 2nd year of their programme.

You do not have to apply for the scholarship. All fee-paying students will automatically be taken into consideration for a 2nd year scholarship.

By mid-September/beginning of October, you will receive an e-mail if you have been awarded the scholarship.

It is our expectation, that student must have a GPA of 10 or higher on the Danish grading scale to be awarded a scholarship.

All non-EU/EEA students applying for a master’s degree programme at the Faculty of Humanities are automatically considered for the Danish Government Scholarships. This means that there is no separate scholarship application process or any additional documents required for applying

The Faculty of Social Sciences only has a very limited number of Danish Government Scholarships available – generally 2-3 per year.

Please note that the scholarships are awarded solely in connection with the September intake.

If you are offered admission to one of the Faculty’s degree programmes, the offer of admission will either contain the information that you have been awarded a scholarship or that you are required to pay tuition fees. If it contains the information that you must pay tuition fees, it means that you have not been granted a scholarship.

The Faculty of Science at the University of Copenhagen has a very limited number of scholarships to award outstanding non-EU/EEA MSc applicants. The scholarships are allocated to students with excellent academic performance.

What does the scholarship cover?

The  scholarship covers:

  • tuition fees
  • living expenses (22 months)

If you receive a Danish Governmental scholarship to cover living expenses, you must be aware that they are taxed according to Danish Tax legislation. Some nationalities may be exempt from paying tax of the scholarship. If you are exempt, we will inform you in your award letter.

Who are considered for a scholarship?

All non-EU/EEA applicants with a grade point average above 90% of their bachelor’s degree will be considered for a scholarship on their 1st priority application.

  • You will only be considered for the scholarships if you are admitted to your 1st priority application.
  • If your grade point average is below 90% you will unfortunately not be considered for the scholarship.

In 2025 the recipients of the scholarships had a GPA of minimum 98%.

How do I apply for a scholarship?

You do not apply for a scholarship, as all eligible non-EU/EEA applications will be taken into consideration for a scholarship. Therefore, there is no separate application form.

Scholarship for 2nd year students

Fee-paying students that excel in their first year at SCIENCE may be eligible for a scholarship to cover the tuition fees and living expenses of the 2nd year of their programme.

To be eligible for the 2nd year scholarship you must:

  • Have passed a minimum of 60 ECTS during your first year of studies at SCIENCE (the results must be registered with the university no later than 1 September).
  • Have achieved excellent grades in the courses passed in your first year of studies at SCIENCE (In 2025 the fee-paying students who were awarded this scholarship had a GPA of 11 or higher on the Danish grading scale). If you have passed some of the 60 ECTS as an exchange student, the faculty will make an individual assessment of the grades achieved at the foreign university.

SCIENCE wishes to ensure the diversity among those who receive the scholarships. Therefore, maximum three with the same nationality will be awarded this scholarship.

If you are awarded the scholarship, you will be contacted in the beginning of September of your 2nd year. If you already paid the tuition fees for the 3rd semester year, you will get a refund.

The Faculty of Theology only has a very limited number of Danish Government Scholarships available – generally less than four per year. The Scholarship is only granted as partial tuition fee waivers, and not as an amount that covers basic living costs.

Please be advised that the decision as to who will be awarded the scholarships is in general made after applicants are offered admission and charged tuition fee. Consequently, you cannot rely on receiving the tuition fee waiver, when making the decision whether to accept an offered place or not. The date for payment mentioned in the email listing the terms of payment of the tuition fee (sent around mid-May) must be met – or your offer of admission will be revoked.

If you subsequently are awarded the Danish Government Scholarship, the tuition fee will be reimbursed.
