Documentation

As part of your application, you will need to upload various supporting documents.

Below you can see which documents you need to have ready when you submit your application for a course at [faculty].

You must upload all the required supporting documents for your application by the application deadline.

Please note that certain documents are mandatory for all applicants, whilst others depend on your educational background, nationality, or other factors.

You can read detailed descriptions for each type of document below.

You must upload your official transcript from the qualifying programme in which you are currently enrolled or which you have completed. The document must be stamped and signed by your educational institution.

You may only select one degree as foundation for admission in your application.

The transcript must include:

  • your full name
  • your date of birth
  • the title of the bachelor’s programme
  • the titles of courses and exams
  • date or term of passed courses
  • grades and information about the grading scale used
  • ECTS or other credit systems transcript of records without a stamp or signature

We need to be able to verify your academic transcript. We therefore need to be able to verify the document in one of the following ways:

  • An official stamp and signature from your university
  • Online via a link, a QR code, a digital signature or similar.

Ask your university what options are available.

Academic transcript in a language other than Danish

We only accept an official translation of your academic transcript into Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, or English. If your academic transcript is not in one of these languages, you must have it officially translated into one of them.

The translation must be stamped and signed by your educational institution or by a certified translator.

You must upload a description of your bachelor’s programme (e.g. your programme regulations or a diploma supplement). The description of your bachelor’s programme is usually published on the educational institution’s website or issued in paper format by the educational institution.

The description of your bachelor’s programme must include the following:

  • Requirements for obtaining a bachelor’s degree, including the duration of the programme and the number of credits/hours required to complete it.
  • A description of the national grading system for your degree if your bachelor’s degree was not awarded by a Danish higher education institution. You should not convert the grading system to the Danish/European system.
  • A description of the programme’s learning outcomes and academic profile, as well as its content

We accept original documents issued in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, or English. If your original documentation is in another language, you must upload a translation into English, along with the original document.

The translation of your bachelor’s programme description does not need to be an official version.

You must upload course descriptions for the courses relevant to the master’s programme you are applying for. This applies to both courses that you have passed and those you are currently taking.

The course descriptions provide the admissions panel with the best basis for assessing your academic qualifications.

You can usually find your course descriptions in the curriculum for your study programme, or you can contact your higher education institution.

You must use the University of Copenhagen’s template to upload the course descriptions

Which courses should you include in the template?

  • You should only include courses that are relevant to the master’s programme you are applying for. You should check the admission requirements yourself to assess which courses are relevant to your application.
  • If a course has not yet been completed, please write ‘not yet completed’ and state your expected completion date.

What should the course description include?

  • Course title
  • All the subject areas covered on the course
  • Date of completion or expected completion
  • Workload, e.g. preparation, lecture and teaching hours, or number of ECTS credits
  • Bibliography (books used in teaching)

In which languages should the descriptions be written?

Course descriptions must be in

  • Danish
  • Swedish
  • Norwegian or
  • English

You are welcome to translate or draft the course descriptions yourself. They do not have to be official.

How to upload documents

Save the template for your course descriptions as a PDF and upload it to your application via the application portal.
Name the file: [Your name] _Course descriptions

If you have used multiple forms, number them as follows:

  • [Your name] _Course descriptions_1
  • [Your name] _Course descriptions_2
  • Etc.

A self-assessment form is an overview of the academic admission requirements that apply to the master’s programme you are applying for. The University of Copenhagen uses the self-assessment form when assessing whether you meet the admission requirements.

You must complete a self-assessment form listing the courses and projects from your bachelor’s degree that meet the academic admission requirements and upload it as part of your application.

Please note that there are individual self-assessment forms for each master’s programme.

Find the self-assessment form and read the instructions

You must provide documentation that you meet the programme’s language requirements at the time of application.

Under ‘Educational Background’ on the programme’s website, you can see which Danish and English language requirements you need to meet.

Find out how to provide documentation of the language requirements

You must upload a copy or scan of your valid passport or national ID card.

If you have neither a passport or a national ID card, you must upload a statement indicating when you expect to receive it and when you expect to be able to forward it to KU.

Your passport or national ID must be valid and must include:

  • Your full name
  • Your date of birth
  • Your nationality
  • Expiration date

A copy of your health insurance card or driving licence is not sufficient. It must be your passport or national ID card.

Have you passed any master’s-level courses?

You must upload supporting documents if you have passed courses or exams as part of a previous, uncompleted master’s programme. We use the documentation to assess whether you are eligible for credit transfer for the courses you have passed.

You are also required to state whether you have previously completed a master’s degree.

Master’s students at a Danish university

We recommend that you authorise data sharing so that we can automatically retrieve your documentation. You therefore do not need to take any action to provide evidence of your ongoing or completed master’s degree. Please check that the documents are correct after you have completed the data-exchange.

This only applies to you if you have studied at a Danish university: KU, AU, AAU, SDU, RUC, ITU, DTU or CBS.

Master’s students at international universities

If you are, or have been, a master’s student at a university outside Denmark, you must upload proof of this. The supporting documentation may be either a copy or a scan of one of the following:

  • Your official academic transcript
  • A degree certificate listing all the courses/exams you have completed as part of your previous master’s programme

The documentation must include:

  • Your full name
  • Your date of birth
  • Title of your bachelor’s degree
  • Date of graduation (only relevant if you have completed the degree)
  • An official stamp
  • A signature from your university

Transcript of records without a stamp or signature

We need to be able to verify your academic transcript online, for example via a link, a QR code, a digital signature or similar. Ask your university whether this is possible.

Academic transcript in a language other than Danish

We only accept an official translation of your academic transcript into Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, or English. The translation must be stamped and signed by your university or by a certified translator.

Are you a citizen of a country outside the EU, the EEA, or Switzerland?

You must pay an application deposit to apply for a master’s programme at the University of Copenhagen if you are not a citizen of the EU, the EEA, or Switzerland.

You do not need to pay the application deposit if you have completed or are expected to complete a bachelor’s degree in Denmark, or if you hold a residence permit that exempts you from payment.

As part of the application process, you must upload a receipt confirming that you have paid the application deposit. If you are exempt from paying the application deposit, you must instead upload proof of your exemption.Read about the application deposit

Are you applying for a master’s degree for working professionals?

When applying for a master’s degree for working professionals, you must not only meet the programme’s admission requirements. You must also meet the requirement regarding relevant employment or entrepreneurial activity.

We conduct a detailed assessment of each applicant’s work duties or the portfolio of entrepreneurial activity to determine whether the requirement for relevant employment has been met.

Documents relating to employment or entrepreneurship

You can provide evidence of relevant employment or self-employment in one of the following two ways:

  1. You have a documented employment contract with a public or private employer for relevant work alongside your studies, based on a relevant bachelor’s degree or an equivalent Danish or foreign qualification at the same level, with an average of at least 25 hours per week, so that you form an integral part of the workplace on a par with full-time employees whilst undertaking your master’s degree.
  2. You are an entrepreneur running a relevant independent business that generates turnover and income-generating activities, or you are affiliated with a public or private entrepreneurial environment.

You must provide documentation that you meet one of the above requirements regarding relevant employment or entrepreneurial activity by 1 August of the year in which you are due to start your master’s programme.
