Qualification before applying

You must check the academic requirements for specific programmes and compare them to the coursework in your bachelor's degree. 

The information is available on the programme’s webpage under Academic admission requirements.

Unfortunately, the University of Copenhagen does not offer pre-assessment. 

We only assess applicants who submit a formal application through our application portal.

Unfortunately, we do not accept supplementary courses passed after the completion of your bachelor’s programme. 

Therefore, you will not be able to qualify further if your bachelor’s degree does not fulfil all academic requirements.

The University of Copenhagen only accepts the language proficiency documentation specified on our website. 

For instance, we do not accept an MOI (medium of instruction) or other language proficiency tests.

Yes, the University of Copenhagen receive more applicantions than we have places for. Meaning, we cannot offer admission to all qualified candidates.

If you are eligible for more than one programme, we recommend applying for several programmes to increase your chances of admission. You can find the selection criteria on the programmes' webpage.

Applying for admission

You can apply for up to three programmes per application round.

Yes, you can apply before you graduate.

However, you must make sure that you can document the completion of your bachelor’s degree no later than 20 September in the year you are admitted.

Generally, you cannot apply for admission in February, if you have an international bachelor's degree.

Currently, only the English-taught MSc in Economics offers February admission for qualified applicants with bachelor's degrees not completed at the University of Copenhagen.

Only applicants with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Copenhagen have legal right of admission. 

All other applicants do not have legal right of admission.

It is not possible to follow the programme online. 

All master's programmes at the University of Copenhagen are full time studies and require physical attendance.

No. We do not accept applications after the deadline.

After submitting your application

If you have been asked for additional documentation, you can upload it to your application through the application portal.

If you cannot upload documentation through the application portal, please send it to optagelse@ku.dk.

If you have applied for a programme starting in September, you will receive a decision by 1 May (non-EU applicants) or by 10 June (EU applicants ). Decisions will be sent on a continuous basis. 

After receiving your offer of admission, you typically only have five days to accept or decline the offer, so it is important you check your email frequently after having submitted your application.

You can accept an offer from another international or Danish university without it affecting your application at UCPH, even if we use the same application portal. 

If you receive an offer of admission, you must submit documentation that you have completed your bachelor's degree by 20 February (February intake) or by 20 September (September intake).

If you did not reply to your offer of admission before the deadline stated in your offer letter, in most cases, you will not be able to accept it after the deadline, as the place be offered to someone else 

However, please contact us as soon as possible at optagelse@ku.dk and let us know if you still wish to accept the offer. 

Few programmes operate with waiting lists. You will be informed directly if you have been placed on a waiting list. 

If you have not received information about waiting lists, the rejection is final, and we cannot offer any alternative way to the specific programme in that year.

Yes, you are welcome to apply again, if you have received a rejection because of limited spaces. It will not affect future applications.

Unfortunately, it is generally not possible to defer your offer of admission to the next year. However, you can apply for a leave of absence under special very circumstances.

You can apply for leave of absence if:

  • you are to take parental leave
  • you adopt
  • you are to do military service
  • exceptional circumstances prevent you from starting the degree programme
