Master of Science (MSc) in Quantitative Biodiversity (Erasmus Mundus)

About the programme

Biodiversity is declining rapidly, and there is an urgent need for knowledge and methods to understand and protect life on Earth. The Erasmus Mundus programme in Quantitative Biodiversity (QuBiD) combines biodiversity science with mathematics, statistics, computer science, and artificial intelligence. Through an integrated European study programme, you learn to analyse complex biodiversity data across species, ecosystems, geographical scales, and time periods. You also build up practical competences within molecular methods, bioinformatics, big data analysis, and ecological modelling.

A joint first year of study in Warsaw and Milan provides a solid foundation in both biological disciplines and quantitative methods. In the second year of study, you specialise in biodiversity and evolution (Charles University, Prague), biodiversity, ecosystems, and global change (Sorbonne University, Paris), community ecology and nature conservation (University of Copenhagen), or biodiversity informatics and taxonomy (University of Tartu, Estonia). Your studies take place at three European universities and provide access to different academic competences, research environments, and international networks.

You learn to combine different data sources, assess uncertainty and adopt a critical approach to analytical methods, including AI-based approaches. You develop the ability to translate complex scientific data into concrete recommendations for monitoring, protecting, and restoring biodiversity, bridging the gap between biodiversity science, data analysis, and evidence-based decisions.

The programme is offered in English.
