Find out how to apply for re-enrolment, readmission, transfer, or change of programme.

Choose the situation that applies to you

If you are currently enrolled in a university degree programme, or have been in the past, start by finding the option that matches your situation.

You may need to apply for admission, readmission, re-enrolment, transfer or a change of programme.

Then check the conditions, documentation requirements and deadlines so you know what to prepare before you apply.

Apply for re-enrolment

You may apply for re-enrolment if you:

  • are not currently enrolled in the programme in which you wish to re-enroll and
  • have previously passed courses equivalent to at least the first year of study (see the current curriculum) of the programme to which you are applying.

You can only be offered re-enrolment if there are places available on the semester you will be joining.

When should you apply for a bachelor’s programme?

We recommend that you submit your application by:

  • 15 March at 23:59 for study start in September
  • 15 October at 23:59 for study start in February

For programmes structured in blocks, the deadlines are:

  • 1 September at 23:59 for block 2

Are you applying for re-enrolment on a bachelor’s programme?

First, check whether you meet the requirements for re-enrolment and which documents you need to include with your application.

You can apply for re-enrolment if:

  • you were previously a full-time student on the same degree programme at UCPH or another Danish university. We consider a programme to be the same if it leads to the same degree title as the programme you were previously enrolled in.
  • you have passed courses equivalent to at least the first year of the programme you are applying to, according to the current curriculum.
  • at least five months have passed since you were withdrawn from the programme.
  • you meet the specific admission requirements. There is no minimum grade point average requirement when you apply for re-enrolment.

You must upload the following documents with your application:

  • An official transcript of records from your previous Master’s degree programme
  • The curriculum for your previous programme
  • Documentation demonstrating that you fulfill the admission requirements for the master’s programme to which you are applying, including:
    • documentation of your qualifying bachelor’s degree and
    • documentation that you meet the language requirements
  • You may find the specific admission requirements listed under the specific programme
  • Certificate(s) for any other completed degree(s) at the same level
  • Documentation of any passed course elements from a previously incomplete degree programme at the same level

Have you been unenrolled from the university?

If, during your previous enrolment, you were unenrolled from the university, or were close to being disenrolled*, you must upload additional documentation with your application. This enables us to assess whether your ability to complete the programme has significantly improved.

* This applies where the conditions for unenrolled were present — for example, if you withdrew shortly before reaching the maximum period of study (i.e. less than one semester remaining), or if you did not pass the first-year exam.

1. You must upload a brief personal statement explaining:

  • why you were unenrolled from the programme and
  • how your ability to complete the programme has significantly improved.

2. You must upload documentation supporting the circumstances described in your statement. This may include, for example:

  • A doctor's certificate or statement from a certified psychologist or psychiatrist in cases involving health-related circumstances.
    • The document must include a professional assessment of your current health situation and whether you are able to study again.
    • If the circumstances are the same, the medical certificate must include a prognosis indicating the duration.
    • You may also submit a copy of relevant medical records if these document the above circumstances.
  • Certificates for examinations, courses or degree programmes you have passed after you were unenrolled from the programme.
  • Documentation of relevant professional experience gained after you were unenrolled from the programme, such as an employment contract, payslips, or a statement from your employer specifying your monthly working hours and job responsibilities.

If you do not upload the requested documentation by the deadline, your application will be incomplete. This may affect the assessment of your application.

If you are offered a place

If you are offered a place, you will have 5 days to respond. The deadline will be stated in the message you receive in the Application Portal and may fall on a weekend or public holiday.

If you do not respond by the deadline, your application may be rejected or you may lose your place.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to the most common questions about your application.

If you are unsure whether to apply for readmission or re-enrolment, we recommend that you apply for both.

This ensures that you are considered for both options, and we will assess which application matches your situation.

I already have a master’s degree but want to start a new degree programme – what should I do?

If you have completed a master’s degree and are interested in starting a new degree programme, different rules apply.

Read about the rules here

You must upload the documentation:

  • by 20 September if you are applying to start in September
  • by 20 February if you are applying to start in February

It is normally not possible to submit your application after the application deadline.

You can apply for an exemption if exceptional circumstances prevented you from submitting your application on time.

You must submit your exemption request as soon as possible after the deadline you are asking to be exempted from.

Technical problems

If you experienced technical problems shortly before 24:00 on the application deadline or immediately afterwards, take a screenshot showing the problem.

Then send us a short description and screenshots of the technical issue as soon as possible by email at admissions@ku.dk.

Software problems on your own computer and other technical difficulties, including login problems, do not in themselves qualify you for an exemption from the application deadline.

An exemption may only be granted if there has been a system failure in the Application Portal. We will then assess whether there are sufficient grounds to grant an exemption because of technical problems.

Exemption due to exceptional circumstances

To be considered for an exemption, the circumstances that prevented you from applying on time must generally have been largely beyond your control.

Examples of exceptional circumstances include:

  • sudden illness affecting you personally
  • serious illness or death in your immediate family, meaning your partner, parents, children or siblings.

An exemption will not be granted because of:

  • delay
  • forgetting the deadline
  • not being aware of the deadline.

What should your application include?

Your application must include:

  • a short statement explaining why you were unable to meet the deadline
  • documentation supporting your explanation, for example a medical certificate, another statement from a healthcare professional or an extract from your medical records confirming that, in the days leading up to the application deadline and until you contacted UCPH, you were unable to submit an application for admission.

Go to the application form

You can still apply after the recommended deadline, but we cannot guarantee that you will receive a decision before the next study start.

If we are unable to process your application before the programme starts, it will instead be considered for the following study start.

For example, if you apply for re-enrolment after 15 March 2026 and do not receive a decision in time for study start in September 2026, your application will be moved to study start in February 2027.

You can only be admitted if there is a place available at the stage of the programme you are due to join.

For each intake, we assess how many places are available at each stage of the programme. If you are due to start the second year, we look at how many students from that cohort are still enrolled and will be starting the second year at the same time as you, compared with the number of places originally allocated to the cohort.

If places are available, applicants who meet the other requirements can be considered for them.

If you are due to start the third year, we assess the number of available places in the same way, but based on the number of students admitted and the number of places allocated two years earlier.

If you apply for a change of programme or a transfer and there are more qualified applicants than available places, we rank the applications.

For bachelor’s programmes, applications are ranked based on your upper secondary school grade point average.

For master’s programmes, applications are ranked according to the criteria that apply to the individual programme.

If you apply for readmission, your application is assessed on the same basis as applications from students applying to the programme from the beginning.

Are you applying for re-enrolment, a transfer or a change of programme?

We aim to process your application as quickly as possible.

The assessment process involves several steps, so it may take some time before you receive a decision.

In some cases, you may not receive a decision until shortly before the programme starts.

Are you applying for readmission?

If you apply for readmission to a bachelor’s programme, you will receive your decision in Mit KU. If you apply for readmission to a master’s programme, you will receive your decision in the Application Portal.
