Scaling conservation of Himalayan plants and fungi through sustainable trade (Himalaya)

This project will improve local livelihoods, elevate traditional knowledge, and strengthen national and regional approaches to sustainable biodiversity-based trade.

About the project

There are major opportunities to enhance sustainability and trade of wild‑harvested forest products by scaling successful pilots in Nepal and linking them to key markets such as India and China.

The project strengthens local livelihoods, uplifts traditional knowledge, and supports national and regional approaches to sustainable biodiversity‑based trade. It benefits the Himalayan region and offers a model for other biodiversity‑rich areas.

Partners work to conserve Himalayan plants and fungi through sustainable trade, empower communities, protect fragile ecosystems, and make wild‑harvested supply chains more equitable.

Building on past successes in the Western Himalayas, the initiative expands while respecting traditional knowledge and existing guidelines.
