Workshops

The core function of the workshops is the development, production and repair of specialized equipment and electronic devices for research and teaching.

We primarily serve the Department of Plant- and Environmental Sciences at the University of Copenhagen, but we also take upon jobs from other departments at UCPH or from external research institutions.

We work in all types of materials and we deal with a variety of equipment from micropipettes to growth cabinets and agricultural implements. We have three different workshops with different responsibilities and are located at two locations; Frederiksberg Campus and Taastrup Campus.

Precision engineering workshop

Function

The core functions of the Precision Engineering Workshop are the development, maintenance and repair of specialised equipment for research and teaching at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences. In addition, we also carry out work for other departments at the University of Copenhagen and for external clients.

The workshop produces prototypes in a wide range of materials and is equipped with traditional precision engineering machinery such as lathes, milling machines and welding equipment, as well as CNC milling machines and 3D printers. We also produce drawings and dimensions using Mastercam and Inventor.

Repairs

At the precision engineering workshop, we repair research equipment from departments at the University of Copenhagen. Please email plenworkshop@ku.dk if you have research equipment that needs repairing. Please include as much information as possible about the equipment and the issues.

We also carry out servicing of climate-controlled cabinets and ULT freezers, as well as statutory servicing of centrifuges.

In addition, we can assist with equipment maintenance.

What can we do?
  • Construction of specialised equipment
  • Repair of all laboratory equipment
  • Prototypes/equipment development
  • Fume cupboards
  • Installation of SMS alarms on -20 and -80 freezers
  • Servicing of vacuum pumps
  • Inspection of centrifuges, climate-controlled cabinets and -80 freezers
  • Advice on laboratory layout
  • Piping and tubing for gases in laboratories
  • Supply of hoses, hose clamps, cable ties, vacuum oil and fittings
  • Disposal of old equipment

At our precision engineering workshop, we are accustomed to carrying out a wide range of tasks and will guide you through the entire process, from concept to technical drawing to manufacture.
