About the department

The Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences is a natural science department of the University of Copenhagen contributing to education and excellent basic and applied research within plant and environmental science.

Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen is one of the largest departments within the faculty. The department is led by Professor Morten Petersen and is organized into 4 sections and Plant Facilities and Workshops, that together contributes to excellent research and education within plant and environmental sciences.

The department employs around 450 scientific and administrative staff members, representing more than 30 countries and hosts around 750 students. Activities are based at both Frederiksberg and Taastrup.

Our vision is to be a global reference for excellent research and education in plant and environmental sciences. We provide innovative and impactful solutions to critical challenges to shape a climate-resilient and sustainable future.

Mission

Our mission is to address the major global challenges in climate change, biodiversity, food security and the environment. We acquire fundamental knowledge and translate it into nature-based solutions. We achieve societal impact via innovation, education and public engagement.
