Christensen Group - Applied Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry

The Christensen Group works with organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry involving both small molecules and macromolecules.

Research focus

The group synthesises molecules for applications in drug delivery, microbiology and photodynamic therapy. The work includes both small molecules and macromolecules.

Since some of the group’s products are biologically tested, purity, scalability and batch-to-batch reproducibility are key elements.

The group develops or improves synthetic methods when needed for a specific project.

Projects

Projects in the group are within the following topics:

  • synthesis and testing of new antibiotics
  • design, synthesis and testing of bacterial efflux pump inhibitors
  • guest-host complexes of dendrimers for drug delivery
  • agents for photodynamic therapy
  • sensors for small biomolecules
  • self-assembled nanostructures for applications in nanomedicine

Project work may also involve planning and execution of organic synthesis.
