Organization and management

The Department of Chemistry is a broad-based and highly interdisciplinary research environment, comprising six research sections, more than 40 specialised research groups, and a close integration of research, innovation, and education.

Organization

Department of Chemistry at the University of Copenhagen is home to a broad and dynamic research environment, bringing together expertise across the full spectrum of modern chemistry.

Our research ranges from fundamental studies of molecules, materials and chemical processes to the development of new medicines, sustainable technologies and advanced quantum materials.

Through the close integration of research, education and innovation, the department fosters a collaborative and interdisciplinary culture where chemistry intersects with fields such as biology, physics, computer science, materials science and health sciences to address some of today’s most important scientific and societal challenges.

Management

The department’s leadership holds overall responsibility for research, education, innovation, and operations. The leadership is supported by section heads and research group leaders, who coordinate activities within their respective fields of expertise.
