Chen Group - Ultrafast Nanophotonics for Applied Optical Materials

Light-matter interactions make the world bright and colorful. Innovative ways of utilizing such in-teractions have broad applications in modern technology such as: bioimaging, solar cells, com-munication and photocatalysis.

Research focus

We develop new fluorescent materials (quantum dots, nanoparticles, crystals). We use ultra-fast time-resolved optical spectroscopies to reveal fundamental photophysical processes in these materials. We aim to use these materials for light emitting, bioimaging and photocatalysis applications.

Group leader

Projects

In my group, you can work with projects focus on developing new metal-halide nanomaterials, fluorescent organic nanoparticles, or ultrafast optical spectroscopy. Specific topics are:

  • Metal-halide perovskites quantum dots development.
  • Surface modification of fluorescent nanopar-ticles for targeted bioimaging applications.
  • Ultrafast excited-state dynamics in inorganic semiconductor and organic molecular materials.
  • Strong light-matter interactions: multi-photon absorption and polaritons.

Whether your background is in chemistry, nano-science or physics, there are projects in our group that can fit with your experience and interests. Students in the group are therefore offered the unique chance of developing competence for your interests and career goal.

Collaborations

We carry our interdisciplinary research projects by collaborating with physicists, chemists, medical researchers, and biologists from academia and industry.

For example, we have close collaboration with researchers in the University of Copenhagen, Indiana University (USA), Lund University (Lund, Sweden), Chinese Academy of Sciences (Dalian, China), and The Extreme Light Infrastructure (Prague, Czechia), Agilent Denmark.
