Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) is used for the quantitative determination of metals and trace elements in a wide range of sample types. The Department of Chemistry offers analytical services based on advanced research infrastructure and scientific expertise, with a focus on reliable results and high analytical quality.

The Department of Chemistry offers elemental analysis (microanalysis) for the quantitative determination of the elemental composition of organic compounds.
The analysis is performed on small sample quantities and provides reliable data for the documentation of compound composition. Duplicate determinations are carried out as an integral part of the quality control procedure.
A typical analysis requires 1.5–2 mg per determination; however, we recommend submitting at least 10 mg of sample to ensure sufficient material for analysis and handling.
The analysis is performed using a FlashEA 1112 elemental analyser.
We provide C, H, and N analyses.

Mass spectrometry is used for the determination of molecular weight, identification of chemical compounds, and analysis of sample composition.
The technique is suitable for the analysis of small molecules, complex mixtures, and biological compounds and can be combined with chromatographic techniques when required.

Types of Collaboration
Collaboration between the Department of Chemistry and companies, public authorities, and organisations can be established in a variety of ways, depending on the nature and scope of the partnership.
Joint research projects based on co-financing is where both parties invest ressources in the project. This might be the invention of new products or the development of existing ones. In both cases your busines will get competent advice from excellent scientists.
We form strategic partnerships with commercial companies, public-sector bodies and other organisations, usually for five years and with an option for and expectation of renewal.
If you want to hire a researcher, you have several options: You can choose a young researcher as an Industrial PhD or Industrial postdoc, or a senior researcher in a co-funded associate professorship or professorship.
The University of Copenhagen owns the rights to its researchers' inventions, but we strive to ensure that as many inventions as possible are used by companies in Denmark and abroad – usually via licensing agreements.
