World Congress “Sport in a Global World – Past, Present and Future”

From 31 July to 5 August 2007, Department of Physical Education hosts the first joint world congress with International Society for the History of Physical Education and Sports (ISHPES) and International Sociology of Sports Association (ISSA).

Among the five keynote speakers of the congress are one of the greatest living sociologists, Anthony Giddens, who has analysed tendencies and developments in modern society. The congress will also present other leading international researchers within the fields of sociology, history and anthropology.

The main topics are:

  • Sport and globalisation – processes, causes and effects
  • Sport ideologies and practices in various societies
  • Media and media sport
  • Global sport and its impact on gender, race and class
  • Sport and the transformation of cities and countries
  • Body and movement cultures in a changing world
  • Hegemonic sport discourses and local resistance
  • The past, present and future of mega sport events and the Olympic Games

More than 300 researchers of social sciences from more than 40 countries participate in the congress.
