350 million for elite researchers at University of
Copenhagen
Posted 8 November 2007
The University of Copenhagen gives out DKK 350 million
to 20 of the most talented researchers.
The funds come from the University’s Programme of
Excellence.
20 researchers each representing a research project will
share the 350 million Danish crowns. For that amount, the
University aims for advanced research in, among other
subjects, formation of identity in early literate societies,
development of speed in reading, economic policy in the
modern welfare state, international security, malaria,
cancer and the origin of the solar system.
It is the first time that the central university
management redistributes a share of the University’s own
research funds to acknowledge quality in research.
- We wish to promote the best research with the Programme
of Excellence. It is important that the University of
Copenhagen keeps its position amongst the leading
universities in Europe. By supporting our best researchers,
we also further our chances of receiving external funding
and international researchers might be more attracted to
come and work here, says Rector Ralf Hemmingsen.
An independent panel of international experts has
selected the 20 research projects from 111 applictions.
DKK 350 million correspond to 15 Danish National Research
Foundation (DNRF) - centres.
