Royal scholarships

22 May 2008

On this sunny Thursday, HRH Crown Princess Mary visited the University to present The Crown Princess Mary Scholarship.

This year, the scholarships goes to Kate Griffiths from Australian National University and to Kylie Wilson from Macquarie University.

Kate Griffiths studies biology with emphasis on environment and plant biology and is a top student at her home university where she studies on a research-intensive elite programme. She is also very committed to sports, both as a practitioner and as an umpire (referee) for the men's senior Australian National Football league. Kate studies at the University of Copenhagen for the spring semester 2008.

Kylie Elise Wilson studies a rare combination of life sciences and law. She has chosen to focus her studies on law and environment, and at the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Life Sciences she has found courses within these areas that were not offered at her home university. Kylie has participated in several UN student conferences where students debate and negotiate in much the same way as the real diplomats. She stays at the University of Copenhagen for both the spring semester and the fall semester 2008.

The Scholarship was a wedding present for the Crown Prince and Crown Princess at their wedding in 2004 and is given out every year to two students from Australian partner universities. All recipients of the scholarship get DKK 10,000 towards costs of staying in Denmark.
